Explanation and notes
Mantra as heard in class: Om Bhreem Namah. Every yantra also has its own separate mantra, but this single brahmastra mantra charges all of them. This charging is also how the pran pratishtha of a yantra is done: the aahutis are given with this mantra while the yantra sits beside the havan kund during the jap. As many yantras as wanted can be charged together, for example on Diwali.
In yantra vastu, numbers are selected according to the work (karya) or the element (tatva) of a place and arranged in a grid whose horizontal and vertical totals are all the same; such a grid is called a yantra.
The complete vidhi for writing any yantra: choose the muhurta, the base, the ink, the kalam, the facing direction and the swar, work in silence, solitude and purity, and, holding the breath, write the smallest number first and the rest in increasing order.
Every yantra has to be made in the muhurta that suits its work; only when made on its own day, tithi or yoga does it give its effect.
The aay (the aay vastu measure) of a yantra must match its purpose: 5 for wealth, 1 for dharma, fame and vastu dosh, 7 for material comforts and 2 for removing nazar, obstacles and family conflict.
Most yantras are written in surya swar and in sagun; a few are written in chandra swar, and the active tattva (element) of the breath is matched to the goal, such as jal tattva for money and vayu tattva to end conflict.
Yantras are written on bhojpatra, paper or a gold or silver sheet with an anar ki kalam dipped in syahi of ashtagandh, kesar or red ink; ink pens are never used.
A yantra may be framed under glass or kept in an envelope, but it must never be laminated or covered in plastic, because that blocks its energy.
A yantra gives no result until its pran pratishtha is done, just as a murti is not fit for worship before it; after the pran pratishtha it is installed in sagun while remembering ones ishta devta.
